Terminology: The word physics is derived from the Greek word "phusis" which means nature. This was introduced by the ancient scientist Aristotle.
Definition of Physics: The branch of Physical Science that deals with the study of the physical world, matter, energy, and their mutual relationships is called physics.
Energy: The ability or capacity of a body to do work is called energy.
Matter: Anything that occupies space and has mass is called matter.
Mutual Relationship: The conversion of matter into energy and energy into matter is called a mutual relationship.
Scope of Physics: Physics is also called the fundamental science, and it is the root of every field of science. In every field of science, we use the principles and laws of physics, such as chemistry, biology, geology, agriculture, engineering, environmental sciences, etc.
Importance of Physics in Science and Technology: Physics has helped us develop technologies such as MRI scanners, X-rays, CT scans, etc. Physics generates the fundamental knowledge needed for future technologies, and many vital discoveries of the 20th century, such as laser technologies, computer technology, the internet, DNA, and nuclear weapons, were created through the advancement of physics.
